Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 Active soon?

According to a recent entry in the Wi-Fi Alliance’s online database, hints a unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active might be on its way soon. SamMobile spotted a listing of SM-G892U — a slight variation of SM-G892A which is the model number of AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. The U portion likely referring to unlocked.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is more durable and rugged looking version of the Galaxy S8. It is currently AT&T exclusive which makes it less available to many users. The Galaxy S8 Active has the same specifications as the Galaxy S8 with a military grade MIL-STD-810G protection and a bigger battery, 1000mAh more than the normal version. It also trades off the curved edge to edge infinity display of Samsung in favor of a more durable flat OLED panel.

Although there are hints at an unlocked version to be launched soon, it is no guarantee that it will ever make it to market let alone out of United States. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active and the S6 Active also were only AT&T exclusive. Never sold out of US, as the exclusivity clause with AT&T stopped it.

The S8 Active is currently available at AT&T in Meteor Gray and Tungsten Gold colors for $28.34 per month on a 30-month contract or $849.99 outright. The pricing and colors of the unlocked model are still unknown.

Is the unlocked Galaxy S8 Active worth the wait really depends on how you want to use your phone? In a normal usage, it won’t matter. But if you are someone who likes adventure, and needs some serious protection on your phone then it’s a great option.
