Uber and Snapchat Integration will allow to take selfies with custom filter

Uber India is integrating Snapchat in its ride sharing app starting today. This will allow for snapchat users to take a selfie with customized filter in Uber India app and share it. Uber states people take uber to meet their friends and taking photos is a integral part of preserving those moments. With a custom filter starting today this can be made more fun. They will be generally ETA filters and other related filters. There will also be a mystery filter to look out for.

Once live, the update will allow Uber users to click on a selfie option in their ride feed, which will allow them to select any filter. This will in turn open Snapchat app. The ETA filter somewhat will be like 5 mins remaining with Uber logo. This will unlock the filter for that user for 5 mins also.

Uber states “In our new rider app, we start with the question Where to so we can get riders to their destination as fast as possible. However besides helping riders get to their destinations, we want to focus on the trip experience itself and make sure riders enjoy the journey”.

Apurva Dala, Head of Engineering, Uber India stated:

“Technology is helping us personalize every ride, making the experience fun and delightful. With this integration, our riders can now Snap along the way and share their Uber moments with friends and family.”

The integration of this feature will help Snapchat increase their user base in the country. After the controversy  of Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snap Inc commenting on India being a poor country. A former employee of Snap had alleged that Spiegel was not interested in expanding the company’s business to poor countries like India and that Snapchat was meant for only rich people. This led to massive online rage throughout the country with #BoycottSnapchat trending on twitter. Also the Snapchat rating dropped to 1-Star on App Store and Play Store. Snapchat hasn’t being doing well recently, with facebook integrating its features in all its apps. This might help the app increase its user base in countries like India.
