Smartphones to look out in Q1 2019
The smartphone market in the last couple of year has become more and more intriguing. Last year, we witness a very high number of smartphone launches. The smartphone not only fought each other in terms of prices but we witness a different first in class features in the smartphones all year round.
The year began with Notch trend with all the phones switching to a Notched display. But towards the end of the year, we were able to see the new #killthenotch trend among smartphone makers. Also, a new In-display fingerprint scanner came to life with Vivo’s X21 while Huawei’s in-glass fingerprint came and became obsolete in a month.
Like every year Xiaomi didn’t fail to make a point. With new sub-brand, Poco Xiaomi took the flagship killer throne again with Flagship specs on the mid-range device. OnePlus, on the other hand, went towards more premium smartphone missing out Headphone jack incorporating In-display fingerprint scanner on a dew-drop display.
After this long list, year ended with Punch-hole display smartphone. Where the selfie camera rested in the hole on the screen. Where Samsung brought the first of this class following by Huawei and sub-brand Honor.
Now with 2019, we have our expectation high. With big-ticket launches scheduled for the first quarter itself. and Mobile world congress 2019 scheduled next month, there is a list of smartphones we would be looking out for in the first quarter.
Samsung Galaxy S10
Samsung has been pretty consistent on the launch of their flagship S-series. For the past 4-5 years, Samsung has announced the smartphone during Mobile World Congress. Last year, the launch was delayed by a week. This year this may not be the case. The Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and S10 lite are the devices scheduled to launch at the event.
The 10th generation of Samsung’s flagship is expected to bring the Infinity O design with Dual selfie shooters. But Samsung in their developer conference unveiled the “New Infinity” design which might be seen in the Plus-variant of the smartphone. The “new infinity” design is touted to place the camera within the screen making a true bezel-less design.
Other information about the smartphone rumoured is Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 under the hood and Triple camera at the back.
OnePlus 7/6T 5g
Just after the launch of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 SoC, Oneplus CEO Pete Lau revealed that the first phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset will be a OnePlus smartphone. With reports suggesting no Oneplus 7 in to be here before April. Expectations of OnePlus 6T with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and 5G support made rounds but after a few weeks of the announcement. OnePlus has requoted themselves as “one of the first phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset” will be a OnePlus.
Thus, making OnePlus 7 more plausible. OnePlus 7 not only would make a buzz for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 but will also incorporate Wireless charging and a Punch-hole display. The new optics of the smartphone is expected to be a tri-camera at the back.
POCO F2/ Mi 9
Xiaomi owned 2018 with the launch of the Poco Sub-brand. The company which was earlier known for top specs at a lower price, redeemed themselves again this year. The Mi 8 pro last year brought the Xiaomi’s first and only in-display fingerprint scanner. The fan/developer edition of the smartphone also witnessed see-through back.
The Mi 9 design is yet to be confirmed, but rumours suggest a Punch-hole OLED display on the smartphone with the ceramic back. The phone will also have Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which will have in-display fingerprint and 5G support bundled with.
While the Poco F2 will have a dew-drop display with a plastic back. Under the hood, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and other bundled features. While the phone will miss out Wireless charging due to its plastic back.

Huawei launched two back to back smartphones at the end of the year with similar features. The Huawei Nova 4 and Honor V20/ View 20, both the phone featured a Punch-hole selfie camera and Hisilicon Kirin 980 processor.
The Honor View 20 was launched on January first in the Chinese market. The phone featured a dual camera at the back with a primary 48MP sensor. The phone featured a 6.4-inch IPS LCD full HD+ display powered by the latest Kirin 980 processor but misses out 5G support, which may be a popular featured by the end of the year.
Speculations of Honor 20 came to existence with expectations of Kirin 980 under the hood with a tri-camera, wireless charging, 5G support and Huawei’s new 40W supercharger.
