How to add a group in Google meet and other apps
In this challenging time of Pandemic caused by the Coronavirus, Social distancing seems to be the only way out. No one is alone during this fight, we all are in this together and we may require the support of our distant families and friends. We might be unable to meet them physically for a while but we can still remain connected. Google introduced Google meet platform which allows us to call and share screen.
Although, there are many platforms via which you can make video calls for free there may be a limit on users. Here, are a few ways you would be able to connect with more than 4 people at once.
More than 4 people on Video Call
It is the new entrant of all of them. Google Meet uses the upgraded Google handouts platform and connects with our Gmail account. Google meet shall topple many of the names listed above as the preferred platform. Not only it is easy to connect but also there is no need for registration and a User-friendly interface. Well, call and video quality is yet to be tested as it was just announced. The option of screen sharing is available, and making a call is as simple as checking email.
Step 1- Open Gmail.
Step 2- Under the mail category, there is the option of Meet.
Step 3- Select start a meeting.
Step 4- Dialog box appears, add participants.
Other Platforms: Alternative to Google Meet
Whatsapp is the most ergonomic platform to make calls from. But there are limitations as you are not able to connect more than 8 peoples on a call. There is no option for screen sharing and there might be quality concerns which affect a lot of users.
Discord (Voice Call)
While the discord app has been available for the past 4 years, It has got a major rise in active-users in the times of this pandemic when companies were forced to make their employees work from home. Although the discord app features video call option, as per our usage of the app. We recommend use it for voice call and screen sharing as the latency is good and we saw no lag. While the video calling may require a bit of work.
Step 1- Log in the Discord platform
Step 2- On the ‘Homepage.’ Click on the ‘Friends’ icon to open the list of friends on your discord server.
Step 3- Choose the friends username and make a call(you can add up to 5000 on a call).
Step 4- As the calling is in process, look for a screen sharing icon present on the bottom of your screen.
Zoom is the most popular app after skype, the Realtime video conferencing client provides simple and a fast interface which lets you connect with another user. The Voice and Video quality of this app remain top-notch. But there are a few concerns regarding privacy which came forward last week and hence it is advised to not to be used by government officials.
Step 1- Install Zoom client.
Step 2- Start a new meeting.
Step 3- Under the Manage participants column – Invite
Step 4- Invites can be shared through email or other messaging clients.
Yes, you read it right. Snapchat is not famous for anything else but streaks and filters. They have been working to improve the user interface and usage. The Snapchat app allows you to video call up to 16 friends and Voice call up to 30 friends at once. While there are no screen sharing capabilities but the capacity seems pretty impressive and a lot of people use this social media platform giving it the edge.
Step 1- Make a group.
Step 2- Add participants into the group.
Step 3- In the group chat, hover to the video call option.
Facebook Messenger Rooms
With the capability of sharing screens and adding up to 50 participants in the chat. Facebook Messenger seems to rival apps like discord and Zoom. But the capability of 50 participants is a limitation here against the apps. Although, there may be an issue related to the quality issue that has always been there with Facebook calling option. Plus A messenger app is a must for calls.
Step 1- Open Facebook.
Step 2- towards the lower end in the Active friend column, Find video call button.
Step 3- Facebook messenger room dialogue box will open. Invite friends and chat.
Whatsapp brought the WhatsApp calling feature back in the day when normal calls used to be expensive. Whatsapp is the widely used social media platform around the globe, so using it make a Voice/Video call seems feasible as all the attendees may have it already.
*important* To make a call to the particular person using this platform both the caller and receiver need to have the particular app.
Step 1- Start Whatsapp, Slide to the menu of call.
Step 2- Click on the new call button(towards the lower right end).
Step 3- New Group Video call / Voice call as per preference.
Step 4- Add recipients and Call.
